Curing the Travel Itch

I found a great new way of using technology to cure that travel itch that I’ve been having for a while now!

Last night, I fired up the Oculus for some fun. Google Earth has an app where you can digitally explore every corner of the globe. From 3D renderings of complete cities to walking in a virtual Street View, it was great tool to explore from my home.

I began my journey with a digital rendering of Mont-Saint-Michel in Normandy, France. Exploring from the top of the spires down through the halls in street view. I checked out the castles along the Rhine. Went window shopping in Florence, Italy as I circled the Duomo. Sports Stadiums and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The Lake Erie islands where I think I found a ship wreck. Flew up the coastline through New York to Niagara Falls and down the St. Lawrence Seaway all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

From there, I visited the Dominican Republic and while those renderings still need some work, the topography of the ocean trenches were really cool to explore. I think I found another shipwreck here as well!

Overall, It was like rubbing around your eye when your eyeball actually has the itch but there was some relief and and some new destinations to add to my list after these travel restrictions are finally lifted.
